This year, amidst the ever-changing landscape of the construction industry, we didn’t just dig deeper at UCI; we soared higher. Our team met challenges with resilience, team members with warmth, and clients with dedication. Underground Contractors, Inc. values its people, its partners, and the communities we serve. Even with a change in leadership after losing our president, Del, those values remain the same.

2023 Employee Spotlights
UCI has a tight-knit team. We made it our mission to make sure that the employees who are doing a stand-out job, are recognized for it. Nominations were submitted by management. Congratulations to all!
2023 Annual Employee Picnic
Every summer, we like to make the most of the weather and gather the team around for a summer picnic! This year, we had a bounce-house for the kids and a mechanical bull for the kids-at-heart (the adults)! It’s always a blast to see the families of our employees and spend the day enjoying each other’s company.
We Remember: Delbert Mecum
In June, we lost our beloved founder Delbert Mecum, Sr. He was an amazing leader and believed in this team with his whole heart. Although retired in his later years, he was very present within the company and he cared deeply for all of his employees – his family! Whether stopping to chat at the yard, shop, office, company meetings, or family picnic, he enjoyed spending time with everyone and will be sincerely missed. The company is left in the hands of his three sons Del, Brian, and Kevin.
2023 Halloween Costume Contest
A little competition never hurt anybody! This October, our team summoned their inner ghosts and ghouls for a Halloween costume contest. This was our first time hosting the contest and we can’t wait to see what kind of submissions we get in the coming years!
2023 Annual Company Meeting
The end of the year is a great time to reflect on what we accomplished in the past 12 months. This year’s annual company meeting was held at Schoolcraft Community College. We honored the employees that have been with us for 5+ years, handed out awards to deserving employees, got an update on our benefits package, received a safety update from Safety Manager, CJ Brown, and enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the afternoon.
2023 Ugly Sweater Contest
Winner, winner, Christmas dinner! We started a new contest this year that encouraged employees to submit photos of their craziest Christmas sweaters. It’s always fun to bring some Christmas cheer into the office and this contest was no exception!
